Certain people have a reason & motivation as to why they wanted to get back into shape. When did it occur to you that it was time for YOU to start working out?

Toni, there are several reasons I decided to get into shape and the most important was I was not happy with myself "health wise", and I needed to do something about it. And, just as important, I have a teenage son that I want to see grow up and be the young man I am raising him to be. There were several warning signs that I should have taken heed of a long time ago to start working out, but I always made an excuse. The first sign was my clothes no longer fit. Then my blood pressure would sometimes elevate, and I would get short of breathe at times. All signs that in my early to mid 30's I was NOT happy with. I got to a point where enough was enough and I begin to pray and ask God to help me find a way to get into shape and someone to workout with. I needed some additional motivation because working out alone was boring to me. I found Toni B Avid Center and a colleague who was also looking to lose weight joined with me and I started my new way of living healthy.

Have you ever had a weight issue before?

Yes, however it was not as drastic as my weight gain this time around. I was about 15 pounds over weight and I joined a local gym and in approximately 4 months I lost it. The weight gain this time started post Hurricane Katrina(like so many others), and unfortunately the pounds continued to add up.

How has your journey of losing roughly 50 pounds been?

In a one word response - AMAZING!! To elaborate just a little... Toni B! and TANITA (the scale) don't play - lol! On a serious note, the first week really was the hardest because I had to adjust everything, but I was prepared. My only worry was I was unsure of what I was going to eat because I do not know how to cook and have no desire to learn. I am spoiled rotten by my family and friends so cooking was and still is not an interest of mine, however I made it through.

How did you hear about Toni B!'s !AVID CENTER?

In New Orleans you might hear someone say- my mom's, best friend, sister-in-law (whew - lol), well that is exactly how I heard about the !AVID CENTER. Ms. Vanessa, who is the 2011 Female Biggest Loser, is a family friend who knew me from a kid was talking about it during a holiday (I think) and I over heard the conversation. When I decided to get back in shape I called Vanessa to get Toni's info and the rest is history.

What is your favorite workout class at Toni B!'s !AVID CENTER and why?

Honestly, I enjoy all the workout classes because they allow you to work out every part of your body. Some classes may concentrate a little more on a certain area, but overall your body will get a good workout. AND, Toni likes to switch things up so you don't get bored doing the same thing. Also, somewhere in my warped mind I am a dancer (lol), so the Wednesday night Salsa y Merengue class might be a favorite of mine - lol!

If you can grade/rate our services, what would it be?

If the grading scale is 1-10, with 10 being the best? I will rate Toni with a 20! Yes, a 20! The service that is given to ALL members is the best EVER! As previously mentioned I was once a member of a local gym (actually two) and sometimes you are just a number or bar code unless you fit a certain look, or category, or if you are the family or friend of someone that works at the gym will you sometime connect with the people there. I did not feel that way when I joined the !AVID CENTER. The friendly environment at Toni B!'s center is one that is inviting and encouraging. Toni will go above and beyond to help you as a member to reach your goal of living healthy. Her knowledge of workout regimens and healthy eating is phenomenal. I applaud her for all the hard work she put in with us and for us. Kudos to you Toni!

Do you ever plan on stopping working out?

My plan is not to stop working out. I will continue to make this a part of my every day living and challenge myself to keep on track.

Do you have any new fitness goals for the future?

Yes, I do. I participated in the New Orleans Crescent City Classic(10k) a few times by walking and jogging, but never running or jogging the entire race. I think my next goal will be to start training in the summer of 2012 to run or jog the entire race in 2014. Wish me luck!

If you can give advice to someone maybe having a hard time just starting out and wanting to lose weight, what would you say??

The best advice I would give anyone wanting to lose weight or live a healthy life is to START TODAY! There is no reason to put something off until tomorrow that you can start today because tomorrow is not promised.
